A cable branch box joins and splits underground medium-voltage cables, taking one incoming cable to several outgoing ones. It is common in urban networks and housing developments.
Enclosure
Cold-rolled steel, stainless steel or SMC composite, sealed against dust, rain and corrosive air. Choose the material for the site: composite or stainless for coastal or polluted areas.
Cable connections
Screened separable connectors, or cold-shrink and heat-shrink terminations, connect each cable to a copper busbar, which distributes power between the incoming and outgoing cables. Low contact resistance at every joint keeps heating down.
With or without switches
- Without switches: a compact, low-cost junction for fixed branches
- With load switches: each branch can be isolated for work, manually or by remote control
- With circuit breakers: adds automatic protection, so a fault on one branch does not take out the others
Earthing
An earth bar connects the metalwork and the cable screens to the site earth, so a fault current has a safe path and protection operates.
